Biologische activiteit

Beschrijving Leupeptin Hemisulfate is een omkeerbare remmer van serine en cysteine proteases. Het remt Cathepsin B (Ki = 6 nM), calpaïne (Ki = 10 nM), trypsine (Ki = 35 nM), plasmine (Ki = 3,4 μM) en kallikreïne (Ki = 19 μM), en heeft geen effect tegen chymotrypsine, elastase, renine of pepsine.

Leupeptin, geproduceerd door verschillende soorten actinomyceten, remt proteolyse sterk.

Leupeptin hemisulfate beschermt tubuline tegen endogene proteolytische activiteiten tijdens de isolatieprocedure en resulteert in een verhoogde zuiverheid van tubuline.

Leupeptin hemisulfate kon tot 50% van de expressie van hepatitis B-oppervlakteantigeen (HBsAg) herstellen in celsuspensiekweken.
